Features
Core Design
- 60 L V16 architecture — 16-cylinder 60° V-type, 159 × 190 mm bore/stroke, built on a modular heavy-duty platform for continuous high-load industrial duty.
- Single-stage turbocharged & aftercooled (TA) — delivers dense, consistent intake charge for stable output under variable loads.
Fuel & Injection System
- Cummins MCRS (Modular Common Rail System) — full-authority electronic control of the high-pressure pump and injectors, with infinite variable injection timing and pressure. Each injector has its own integrated accumulator, eliminating inter-injector pressure pulsation for smoother running.
- Quieter & smoother — up to ~80% reduction in noise and vibration at idle versus older mechanical/HPI systems.
- Note: earlier CM500-controlled builds used HPI; current C2500 is MCRS (CM2150 ECM).
Durability & Serviceability
- Long-life heavy-duty camshaft — large-diameter, micro-finished, hardened surface built to handle the 2500 HP load; reusable at rebuild, keeping the engine “rebuildable” past 20,000+ service hours.
- Proven power-cylinder package — single-piece ferrous ductile-iron pistons, nitrided liners, and cast-iron top rings engineered for high injection pressures.
- Prelub™ system (standard on mining builds) — builds oil pressure to cylinders and friction surfaces before cranking; a pressure switch prevents start-up without oil in the sump/filters, extending life-to-rebuild.
- Two-stage oil filtration — combined full-flow + bypass, removing up to ~3× more contaminants than standard filters to cut wear.
Electronic Control & Monitoring
- Quantum System ECM — high-speed electronic control module with self-cooling, vibration-isolated mount and a fully-sealed, fail-safe wiring harness.
- Advanced engine monitoring — additional sensors and expanded data logging enable real-time, cylinder-by-cylinder performance tracking for protection and uptime.
Performance & Application Fit
- Continuous-duty rating — 2500 HP (1864 kW) @ 1900 RPM, holds high load factors without the derating typical of smaller engines.
- Step-load capability — absorbs sudden power surges (e.g. drilling operations) without stalling.
- Typical applications: mining haul trucks (Komatsu 930E, BelAZ 7530 series), oil & gas drilling rigs, marine auxiliary power, and stationary/standby generator sets.
Emissions & Compliance
- Certification: EPA Tier 4 / IMO III (per distributor spec sheets for the C2500).
- Net weight ~8,750 kg; overall dimensions ~2960 × 1780 × 2150 mm.
